Starting up a new Aquarium.
One of the most important things to remember when you want to start a new aquarium is to never buy the tank and fish on the same day. Although it would be nice to do this having some patience is key.
Some people may say to you that small tanks are better for beginners however I believe other wise. Of course don't necessarily go out and get the biggest tank money can buy (unless of course you have the budget and the space). A three foot tank is probably a good size to start with.
When buying a tank you can choose an aquarium package from dealers such as Juwel which should contain everything you need but if you choose not to do this you will need to make sure you have the following things:
- A filter system,
- A heater,
- A lid with a lighting system,
- Gravel or Sand,
- Backing material for the back of the tank display instead of plain glass,
- Finally things to decorate your tank such as rocks, wood and plants.
- Once up and running you will also need test kits, water conditioner etc.
Placement
Once you have all the things you need you will need to position the tank in the best place possible and it will need to sit on a piece of furniture. Furniture that has been designed for aquariums is best.
Try not to place the tank in direct sunlight as this is likely to make algae grow at a faster rate which could be difficult to handle. Place the tank away from radiators and draughts coming from doors and windows as this will make it easier to maintain the temperatue of the aquarium. Also make sure the tank is in a sterdy location.
